Speaking to mediapersons here, Balakrishnan said that the Karnataka DGP had telephoned to Kerala DGP Jacob Punnoose and conveyed their thanks for the cooperation extended by the Kerala Police.

The Karnataka DGP had told Punnoose that they do not have any misconception about Kerala police, he said.

Detailing the way that led to the arrest of Madhani, Balakrishnan said the case was registered in Karnataka and it was the responsibility of the Karnataka police in the case.
The arrest was executed by the Karnataka police and Kerala police had only facilitated in implementing the arrest warrant, he said.

The state government was very particular that there should not be any law and order violation in the state, he said, adding Kerala police did not arrest Madhani, who was inside the yatheemkhana in the midst of inmates and children, as the government did not want to create a situation like the one created during the UDF rule by allowing the police to enter Sivagiri mattom at Varkala.

Replying to a query whether any representatives of Madhani had urged the government to allow the pdp leader to surrender before the court, he said 'no one has approached the government in this connection.'

However, a delegation of leaders had met the Chief minister V S Achuthanandan, who had told the delegation to ask Madhani to abide the law, Balakrishnan said.

Ending eight day's of suspense Madhani was arrested by the karnataka police from his camp at Anwarassery today. The Karnataka police team had been waiting in Kollam district for the last eight day with the arrest warrant.
