DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s health condition continues to “remain stable with ongoing active medical support”, doctors treating on him said on Saturday night.

Karunanidhi (94) was rushed to Kauvery Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday after his blood pressure dropped. The latest hospital bulletin is significant since it talks about medical support for the first time.

“He is continuously being monitored and treated by the panel of expert doctors in the Intensive Care Unit,” the statement issued by Dr Aravindan Selvaraj, executive director, Kauvery Hospital, said in the bulletin. The DMK chief was receiving treatment at his residence for the past two years and doctors noticed a “slight decline” in his health on Thursday evening.

Karunanidhi’s daughter and DMK MP Kanimozhi said her father was responding to treatment and would remain in the hospital for a few days.

DMK spokesperson T K S Elangovan said Karunanidhi would remain in the hospital for a couple of days though his blood pressure is now stabilised. Sources said doctors would continue to monitor Karunanidhi for the next 48 hours. Karunanidhi is also being treated for urinary tract infection and other age-related illness.
