Kolkata Metro Services were disrupted for at least half an hour after sparks were spotted in the third rail at the Tollygunge Metro station on Tuesday.

The incident took place at around 2 .21 pm prompting the Kolkata Metro Rail authorities to swing into action.

"The technical snag was repaired promptly and services resumed at around 2.56 pm," Kolkata Metro spokesperson Indrani Banerjee said.

The latest incident adds to a series of snags in Kolkata Metro Rail services. Passengers had to be deboarded when a Metro Rail rake was stuck near Dum Dum Metro station in North Kolkata February 13.

Another major incident took place on December 27 when smoke started coming out inside a packed Metro Rail compartment and panicked passengers had to be evacuated.
