One of the two lawyers, accused of orchestrating the anti-Sterlite protests in Thoothukudi that ended in police firing killing 13 people, was arrested from the airport here on Wednesday on his arrival from New Delhi.

The arrest of S Vanjinathan came days after the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court dismissed an advance bail petition filed by him and his colleague. Vanjinathan, a practising advocate with the Madurai bench, is a member of Makkal Athikaram, the organisation that has been blamed for the protests.

He has been booked under 353 (criminal force to deter public servants from carrying out duty), 148 (rioting with deadly weapons) and Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act of the IPC.
