A rattled Congress on Saturday held out a warning for Enforcement Directorate officers for raiding the premises of the associates of Robert Vadra.

Congress leaders said the ED officers should better note that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not come to their rescue when the law will finally catch up with them.

“They should remember that time & election results change. Results of one set of elections will be announced on December 11 and the results next year too will usher in change,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

“Officials who head important departments should remind their political masters that there should be discipline and restraint because time is never same,” Singhvi told a press conference here.

Congress spokesman Pawan Khera warned the ED officers that they will be held accountable for every single illegality they have indulged in on behalf of their political masters.

“The officers be better warned that Modi will not come to their rescue when law will take its course on their illegal actions,” Khera told reporters here.

Enforcement Directorate officers carried out searches on the premises of persons close to Robert Vadra, the brother-in-law of Congress President Rahul Gandhi, on Friday.

Congress leaders addressed three press conferences over a 24-hour period since Friday evening.

At a hurriedly called press conference on Saturday night, Congress leader and former Law Minister Kapil Sibal claimed that searches were carried out at premises of Vadra's associates without registration of any FIR or without any search warrant.

Sibal claimed that the ED searches were carried out at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had publicly said at election rallies that he had asked investigating agencies to probe cases against Congress leaders.

“If mere exit poll results can unnerve the Prime Minister, one can imagine what could happen when the actual time to exit comes next year,” Sibal said flanked by senior Congress leaders Ahmed Patel, Randeep Singh Surjewala, R P N Singh among others.

Sibal said the Congress would file an FIR against the ED officers for carrying out searches without arrest warrants and registration of FIRs against Vadra or his associates.
