Heavy rain continued in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) resulting in waterlogging in several places for the second consecutive day on Sunday.

In some places of central Mumbai, like the chronic spot of Hindmata, around noon people were seen wading through waist-deep and knee-deep flood waters.

On Saturday and Sunday, several places in Mumbai and its suburb districts of Palghar, Thane and Raigad received over 400 mm rainfall.

Public didn't feel the impact as it was a weekend.

In the last two days, five people lost their lives in rain-related incidents.

There have been over 30 incidents of short-circuit, wall collapses and uprooting of trees across the financial capital and its suburbs.

According to weathermen at Regional Meteorological Centre at IMD and Skymet Weather, on-off heavy rain is expected to continue for another 48 hours.

There is a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Konkan-Goa coast, Marathwada and North Maharashtra regions.

Waterlogging was reported from areas of Sion, Hindmata, Dadar, King’s Circle, Byculla, Asalfa, Kurla, Tilaknagar, Andheri, Jogeshwari among other places in Mumbai.

The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) pressed into service water pumps in several places to clear the accumulated water.

Sunday was the seventh disruption this monsoon, the others being on 9, 17, 23 and 25 June and 3 and 7 July.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) shut half a dozen of bridges and walkways, which include the Ghatkopar East-West bridge, the Gopal Krishna Gokhale road over bridge, Kalanagar road overbridge, Vasai Road old road overbridge and a skywalk at Malad.

Meanwhile, as incessant rain continues, lifeguard chairs have been arranged across the beaches in Mumbai and MMR for better visibility, along with a manual siren and public address system.

Over the last 24 hours, between 8.30 am Saturday and 8.30 am Sunday, the suburbs recorded 131.1 mm (very heavy) and 33 mm (moderate) rainfall in Colaba and Santacruz observatories, respectively.

Since 8.30 am to 5 pm, parts of Mumbai recorded over 100 mm rainfall. The far suburbs of Vikramgad, Wada, Murbad, Raigad too recorded over 100 mm rainfall in six hours.
