The Arvind Kejriwal family added a Maruti car, 20 gram of gold and half a kilo silver in the past five years, as their assets grew by Rs 1.34 crore mainly riding on the rise in market prices of the land they own over the years.

The affidavit filed by AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal along with his nomination paper for New Delhi Assembly seat in the upcoming state elections showed a rise from Rs 2.09 crore in 2015 to Rs 3.44 crore – 64.12% increase – this year.

Interestingly, a comparison of the 2015 and 2020 affidavits showed that Kejriwal is no more a voter in New Delhi constituency from where he is contesting for the third time while he is now enrolled in the Chandni Chowk seat.

While Kejriwal has movable assets – cash in hand, bank savings – worth Rs 9.95 lakh (up from Rs 2.26 lakh), his wife Sunita, who took voluntary retirement from Indian Revenue Service, has Rs 57.07 lakh.

The car that the family bought after 2015 – Maruti Baleno valued at Rs 6.20 lakh – is owned by Sunita, who has invested in Public Provident Funds, as well as, SBI Mutual Funds. She also owns 320 gram of gold worth Rs 12 lakh (300 gram in 2015) and one kg of silver worth Rs 40,000 (500 grams in 2015).

They have not bought any new land or house in the past five years and one of the land in Kejriwal's name is inherited. The market value of one of the plots owned by Kejriwal in Uttar Pradesh's Indirapuram has risen from Rs 55 lakh in 2015 to Rs 1.40 crore now.

Sunita owns a residential flat in Haryana's Gurugram whose market value rose from Rs 61 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

Also, the affidavit showed, the family has managed to clear a housing loan of Rs 30 lakh in the past five years besides clearing of Rs 11 lakh debt taken from relatives.

It also showed that in 2018-19, Kejriwal filed income tax returns for Rs 2.81 lakh, as against 2.58 lakh in 2017-18 and Rs 7.42 lahk in 2014-15.

The affidavit also showed that Kejriwal has 13 criminal cases, including seven defamation cases, pending against him.
