Five men beat up three for carrying 'beef' in MP

Madhya Pradesh police have arrested five people of a cow vigilante group after a video went viral, The Indian Express reported.

Three people were allegedly carrying beef in an auto in Khairi village. The group informed the police on May 22. However, the five were arrested on May 24 after a video of the men beating up the trio went viral. The trio were also forced to shout the slogan "Jai Shree Ram".

"Police arrested the three who were allegedly carrying beef and took them into custody. They also sent the meat for lab testing," said Seoni SP Lalit Shakyawar.

The five accused, Shubham Baghel, a habitual offender, Yogesh Uikey, Deepesh Namdev, Rohit Yadav and Shyam Dehriya were arrested for assault and were booked under IPC sections 143, 148, 149, 341, 294, 323 and 506 and also Section 25 of the Arms act, said Dunda Seoni police station in-charge Ganpat Uikey.

Uikey added that the police came to know about the video after one of the relatives of the three filed an FIR after the video surfaced. He said the vigilantes informed the police after roughing up and beating the trio. He added that one of the accused belongs to an organisation called Shriram Sena and had been externed last year.
