Home Ministry approves renaming of Manduadih railway station in UP as Banaras

The Centre has approved the renaming of Manduadih railway station in Uttar Pradesh as 'Banaras'.

The Uttar Pradesh government had sent a request for renaming the railway station in Varanasi district.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued for changing the name of the Manduadih railway station to 'Banaras'.

The railway station is situated in Manduadih area of Varanasi. It is also a terminal station of Varanasi. Following heavy rush at Varanasi Junction, the Indian Railways developed this as a high-facilitated terminal.

The home ministry approved the proposal for name change according to the existing guidelines in consultations with agencies concerned.

Before giving nod, the Home Ministry will have to take no-objections from the Ministry of Railways, Department of Posts and Survey of India, said an official in the Home Ministry.
