Stating that there has been zero infiltration on the Line of Control (LoC) this year, Jammu and Kashmir police chief Dilbagh Singh Saturday said that no fresh ceasefire violation was reported after the recent peace agreement between Indo-Pak officials.

“So far there is zero infiltration on the LoC in both Kashmir and Jammu regions. I would love to see zero infiltration throughout 2021,” Singh told reporters on the sidelines of inauguration of a cricket tournament, here.

However, he said, that drugs are "a fresh gift” being sent from across the LoC. “Last year a large quantity of heroin was seized. We have constituted an Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and this force is doing a good job. Drugs are being sent from Kashmir as well as Jammu borders,” the police chief said.

“Last year drones were used to send narcotics, and weapons. We seized large quantities of pistols, AK rifles of various kinds and M4 US-made rifles that were made in Pakistan or Afghanistan after copying the US model,” the police chief said.

He said the LoC is peaceful since a peace agreement between the officials of India and Pakistan last month as no ceasefire violation was reported since then. About active militants in Srinagar, Singh said some youth have joined militancy in the city as “radicaliaation is taking place by elements who are not happy with the peace.”

“(But) the situation is not alarming. We have an ecosystem where we deal with such issues. As far as other districts, we will have to put our heads together where religious leaders, social activists have to play a role to ensure youth are kept away from the gun,” he said.

The police chief said last year, three dozen youth, who had joined militancy were brought back while 12 youth surrendered during encounters with security forces. “Those who surrender will get all the dividends of good life,” he said.
