In a move largely seen as the preparation of the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami met PM Modi on Tuesday, hours after he met home minister Amit Shah. Dhami told reporters that the UCC will be implemented in the state soon, even though he added that the UCC was not part of the discussions with the prime minister.

After the meeting, Dhami spoke to reporters and said that nothing will be done in haste. “He (the PM) knows all about the provisions of UCC. His view is that UCC should be implemented in the country. We will bring it soon, but will we do anything in haste,” Dhami said.

The expert committee formed in the state for the implementation of the UCC is set to submit its report soon. Recently, at a function in Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi advocated the implementation of the UCC and said that the Opposition was trying to mislead the Muslims on the matter.

Several tribal communities have also echoed the Opposition charge of not carrying out enough consultations on the matter.

Dhami said that he also invited the PM for the investors summit, and that the Char Dham yatra, the infrastructure projects in the state as well as law and order situation was discussed. The Joshimath disaster, too, was discussed along with ways of preparing for natural calamities in monsoon.

Among infrastructure projects, Dhami sought financial assistance of Rs 1,546 crore from the Centre and approval for the Kiccha-Khatima railway station project. Apart from that, he also sought clearance of a proposal to shift Dehradun’s main railway station to Harrawala station, which has recently been renovated.
