Notification issued for first phase of Bihar polls

In the first phase due Oct 21, polls will be held in 47 of 243 assembly constituencies.
"The process for the six-phase assembly elections in Bihar got under way," an official in the additional chief electoral office here said.

The last date for filing nominations is Oct 4 and one can withdraw one's name until Oct 7. The filing of nomination papers by candidates began Monday itself.Among the constituencies going to polls in the first phase are flood-prone Kosi and Mithila.Bihar will elect a new 243-member assembly during the staggered polling that begins Oct 21 and ends Nov 20. The counting of votes is slated for Nov 24.
