Close on the heels of RJD and JD (U) leaders causing embarrassment to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, it was the turn of a Congress MLA to do so through his improper conduct.

A newly-elected legislator from Bikram, Siddhartha Singh, on Thursday kidnapped a Class XII girl from Masaurhi, a place near his constituency. The father of the 18-year-old girl has a lodged an FIR against the MLA charging him with forcibly entering his house and abducting his teenage daughter at gun-point.

An embarrassed Congress, pushed to the back-foot after the police complaint, said the law will take its own course. “We are trying to verify the case. If found guilty, strict action will be taken against Siddhartha,” said state Congress president Ashok Choudhary, who is also Bihar’s Education Minister. The RJD and the Congress are alliance partners of the JD (U) and running the coalition government in Bihar.

However, the RJD too embarrassed the Nitish regime when Ranjit Yadav, son of RJD MLA Kunti Devi, mercilessly thrashed a government medical practitioner, Dr Satyendra Kumar Sinha near Gaya. The doctor, who has been admitted to Jaya Prakash Narayan Hospital in Gaya, is in a precarious state after sustaining grievous injuries. Ranjit, already facing murder charge, has been named as an accused in the FIR lodged by the doctor’s family.

Sources said the immediate provocation for the ugly incident was Ranjit’s visit to Bathani Hospital where Dr Sinha was on night duty. The MLA’s son asked for register (to know about the duty of doctors), which Dr Sinha refused to share. Enraged over the refusal, Ranjit beat him up mercilessly.

The younger son Tejaswi Yadav, who also happens to be Deputy Chief Minister, on Thursday said, “The assault matter has come to our notice. We are looking into the case. No one will be spared if found guilty.”
