A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court for a direction to the CBI to file a status report with regard to its probe into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

Advocate Vineet Dhanda filed the plea, pointing out that the apex court had in its judgement on August 19 transferred the probe to the CBI and directed for completing the investigation within a period of two months.

He said there should be a direction to the CBI to submit a status report regarding the investigation handed over to it in the FIR initially registered with Rajiv Nagar police station in Patna by K K Singh, the father of the deceased actor.

Dhanda said the CBI should be asked to submit the final report in competent court within the stipulated time.

Sushant's father Singh had to belatedly approach the Patna police on July 25 to get an FIR registered against Rhea Chakraborty, Rajput's ex-girlfriend, and her family members, as the Mumbai police, even after lapse of more than 60 days of June 14 incident, did not find any material to lodge an FIR and continued with accidental death report and an inquiry.

Singh had accused Rhea and her family members of cheating, extortion, illegal confinement of Sushant and swindling off his money.
