Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.

He paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. He also wrote in the visitors' diary at the Ashram, and garlanded a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at Hriday Kunj.

He will flag off the Dandi March from the Ashram today, as part of the Amrit Mahotsav programme to mark the 75 years of India's independence. The event named "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" is part of a series of events being organised by the government to commemorate the 75th anniversary of independence.

The Prime Minister during his 3-4 hour visit will be addressing a gathering near Abhay Ghat, the resting place of late Prime Minister Moraji Desai. The event is being attended by scores of government officers, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Governor Acharya Devvrat, other ministers, BJP leaders, faculties and students of Gandhi-founded Gujarat Vidyapith, among others.
