Even before political parties in Rajasthan disclose their manifestos for the upcoming assembly polls, Suchna Evum Rozgar Abhiyan (SR Abhiyan) unveiled a ‘People’s Manifesto’ and urged political parties to include the same in their manifestos.

Ahead of the polls, most of the parties have assured that their manifestos will be based on people’s feedback, so as to reflect the aspirations of the common man.

The ‘People’s Manifesto' was prepared after series of discussions addressing issues related to food security, labour and unorganised sector, MNREGA, the state of health and education in the state, employment, democratic governance, youth, mining, child rights, agriculture, land acquisition and women, minorities, Dalits, Adivasi, nomadic tribes, disabled people and transgender rights.

Other than representatives from the Congress, the parties that supported the manifesto include Aam Aadmi Party, CPI (M) and Samajwadi Party.

Nikhil Dey of SR Abhiyan informed the representatives that Rajasthan has the highest number of child labourers. He also shared a study which proves the ill-effects of engaging government teachers in other duties are leading to the loss of class hours.

Nikhil Dey said, "I am hopeful that the winning party will include a few pointers in its manifesto. And I am equally sad that the ruling BJP did not send its representative".

Congress to seek online suggestions

Meanwhile, the Congress said that its manifesto should be ready by the second week of November. According to sources, the party will seek people's suggestions online before finalizing the poll manifesto.

Harish Chaudhary, chairman of the Congress manifesto committee said, "The Congress manifesto will be a people’s manifesto. Farmer issues and unemployment will top our manifesto".

However, BJP too has claimed that its manifesto will accommodate people’s expectations. Smaller parties floated by independent MLA Hanuman Beniwal and BJP rebel Ghanshyam Tiwari will also come up with their manifestos in the coming days.

Rajasthan will go to polls on December 7 and counting will be held on December 11.
