Ram Vilas Paswan gets Consumer Affairs, Food and PDS

Ram Vilas Paswan has been given the post of Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the 17th Lok Sabha under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ram Vilas Paswan is an eight-time MP from Bihar and six-time Union Minister.

He started his political career as a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly and became famous by winning 1977 Lok Sabha polls, which were held the post- Emergency. He won by then record margin of 4 lakh votes from Hajipur constituency.

He entered Union Ministry in 1989 during V.P. Singh's cabinet, as labour minister.
Later he became held various ministries under different Prime Ministers, railway, communication, coal etc.

He made his party appearance as a Dalit party of Bihar.

In 2004, he became Minister of chemicals and fertilizers and steel under UPA-1 but due to some tractions with Congress, he withdrew his party from Congress alliance of 2009 and also lost the seat.

Later in 2014, he became minister for food and public distribution and consumer affairs. He effectively worked against the pulses and sugar crises and reformed public distribution System.

In 2019 as well, he is appointed as the cabinet minister.
