Last Updated 15 December 2018, 13:49 IST

A group of six men, wielding guns, stormed into a bank in Mannargudi in Thiruvarur district on Monday and looted Rs 6 lakh, police said.

The unidentified men, who arrived in a car, entered the bank at around 3 pm when the bank officials were returning after lunch break and stole the cash at gunpoint.

The incident took place at the Mannargudi branch of Tamilnad Mercantile Bank and police have launched a manhunt to nab the robbers. Police said the robbers stormed into the bank branch and smashed the DV-R device that stores videos captured by the CCTV cameras to ensure that they don't get caught.

“The CCTVs are intact but the recording device has been damaged. We are investigating the incident and we are confident of nabbing the culprits,” Thiruvarur district SP Mayilvaganan said.
