YSR Telangana Congress party chief Y S Sharmila was arrested by the Telangana police on Tuesday, while she was on way to protest at chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao's office.

Sharmila, younger sister of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy, had called for CM office Pragathi Bhavan siege in protest of the attack on her convoy, padayatra allegedly by TRS men at Narsampet and her arrest later by the police on Monday.

In a day of dramatic scenes and developments on Hyderabad streets, Sharmila had to be forcibly pulled out from the driving seat of an SUV and was taken into a police station.

In a day of dramatic scenes and developments on Hyderabad streets, Sharmila had to be forcibly pulled out from the driving seat of an SUV and was taken into the SR Nagar police station.

Earlier in the day, Sharmila managed to give cops the slip and drove out of her Lotus Pond residence in a white SUV which was allegedly partially damaged in the TRS attack.

The city cops managed to stop her at Somajiguda, preventing her from moving further towards Pragathi Bhavan nearby. As she refused to get down, the police lifted the car with help of a Traffic police crane and towed it for a few Kms to the SR Nagar police station with Sharmila sitting unwaveringly at the wheel.

Sharmila and six of her associates were booked by the police under various IPC sections pertaining to deterring a public servant from discharging duties, wrongful restraint, creating public nuisance, snatching a cell phone from and using threatening, abusive language against a woman cop.

Y S Sharmila launched YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) in July last year. Venturing into Telangana politics despite the disapproval of her elder brother, she later set out on "Praja Prasthanam padayatra" across the state.

Throughout the marathon march, Sharmila was engaged in blistering attacks on the ruling dispensation attacking KCR, his son and minister KT Rama Rao and the local TRS legislators wherever she was addressing the public.

Sharmila reportedly made some uncomplimentary remarks about TRS MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy while her yatra was in Narsampet of Warangal. Objecting to her comments, the offended MLA followers attacked her convoy on Monday, set a caravan on fire and allegedly damaged vehicles including the windshield of her SUV. The TRS and YSRTP men also clashed, causing public disturbance.

As Sharmila refused to break her padayatra, she was arrested by the police and taken to her Hyderabad home on Monday night.
