A 30-year-old undertrial prisoner, lodged in the Kota Central Jail, died during treatment at Maha Rao Bhim Singh (MBS) hospital after he was rushed there in the morning with complaints of breathing problem, an official said.

The inmate, identified as Deepak Gujar alias Kalu, had been lodged in the jail since 11th of this month in an Excise Act case and was an alcohol addict, said Yogesh Kumar Teiji, the jailor of Kota Central Jail.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased created ruckus in the hospital, alleging that Gujar was thrashed by jail personnel.

However, Teiji refuted the allegations, saying that the inmate was an alcohol addict and was not in sound health since the time he was lodged in the jail.

Police have lodged a case under Section 176 of the CrPC, the official said.
