UPSC Exam Results out: IIT grad tops - Full list here

An IIT graduate Kanishak Kataria, who belongs to a Dalit community, has topped the prestigious civil services examination while Srushti Jayant Deshmukh is the topper among women candidates, the Union Public Service Commission said on Friday.

A total of 759 candidates (577 men and 182 women) have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services like IAS, IPS, IFS etc.

Kataria, a B.Tech (Computer) from IIT Bombay, has qualified the examination with mathematics as his optional subject while the second rank went to Akshat Jain, an engineering graduate from IIT Guwahati. They were followed by Junaid Ahmad and Shreyans Kumat.

Deshmukh, the topper among women, was fifth in the overall ranking. She had done her Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya.

Among the top 25 candidates, 15 are men while 10 are women. The top 25 candidates have graduated in subjects like Engineering, Economics, Law, Mathematics, History, Political Science, Public administration and Commerce from premier institutions of the country such as IITs, NIT, NLU, BITS Pilani, DU, Mumbai University, Anna University, Pune University.

According to the UPSC, 361 winners belonged to General category while 209 were from the Other Backward Communities, 128 from Scheduled Castes and 61 from Scheduled Tribes.

Appointment to the various Services will be made according to the number of vacancies available with due consideration to the provisions contained in the Rules for the Examination, the UPSC said. There are 180 vacancies in IAS, 150 in IPS and 30 in IFS.

A total of 10,468 candidates qualified for appearance in the main examination held in September-October, 2018 while 1,994 were called for the personality test conducted in February-March, 2019.
