UPSC results 2021 declared: Shruti Sharma tops exam

It's girl power! Three girls -- Shruti Sharma, Ankita Agarwal and Gamini Singla -- topped the Civil Service Examinations 2021, the Union Public Service Commission said on Monday, as it published a list of 685 candidates who cleared the prestigious test that opens the door to the country's bureaucracy.

Of the candidates chosen, 244 are from general category, 73 from Economically Weaker Sections , 203 of Other Backward Classes, 105 Scheduled Caste and 60 from the Scheduled Tribes. Among the total successful candidates, 177 are women.

Shruti, who topped the exams, is a honours graduate in History, while second rank holder Ankita is a honours graduate in Economics. Both studied in University of Delhi.

Gamini, a computer engineer, was third. While Shruti chose history as her subject for the exam, Ankita chose political science and international relations and Gamini took up Sociology as her optional subject.

Aishwarya Verma secured the fourth rank and Utkarsh Dwivedi achieved the fifth rank. Among the top 25 candidates, ten are women.

The educational qualifications of top 25 successful candidates include graduation in engineering, humanities, commerce and medical science from premier institutions like IIT, AIIMS, VIT, PEC, University of Mumbai, University of Delhi and GB Pant University.

The toppers opted for subjects like Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Hindi Literature, History, Mathematics, Medical Science, Political Science & International Relations, Public Administration, Sociology and Zoology as their optional choice in the Written (Main) Examination.

The 685 candidates include 25 Persons with Benchmark Disability -- seven Orthopedically Handicapped; five Visually Challenged, eight Hearing Impaired and Multiple Disabilities.

The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2021 was held on October 10 last year. A total of 10,93,984 candidates applied for this examination, out of which 5,08,619 candidates actually appeared in the examination. While 9,214 candidates qualified for the Main Examination, which was held in January this year, 1,824 candidates were called for the final interview.

"UPSC has a 'facilitation counter' near the examination hall in its campus. Candidates can obtain any information / clarification regarding their examinations / recruitment on the working days between 10:00 hours to 17:00 hours in person or over telephone nos. 23385271/23381125 /23098543," the UPSC said. Marks will be available on the website within 15 days from the date of declaration of result, it said.

While the government has reported 749 vacancies, the UPSC has chosen only 685 candidates.
