Last Updated 10 March 2013, 20:53 IST

Many widows of farmers who committed suicide along with agriculturists of Vidarbha region from Monday will beat drums in front of the banks which were allegedly involved in the farm loans waiver scam.

Following the uncovering of anomalies in the Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) last Tuesday asked all banks to come out with statements as to how the monies were disbursed and the list of names of the beneficiaries.

The RBI in its diktat also sought explanations from banks with regard to those eligible beneficiaries who were denied benefits under the scheme.

Talking to Deccan Herald from Nagpur, Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) president Kishor Tiwari, said : “The RBI has issued a deadline to all banks. The Agriculture Debt Waiver Scheme was started to help out thousands of farmers in the country. But who got it? Look at our Vidarbha and the border areas of Andhra Pradesh...the number of farmers who have committed suicide due to debt and exploitative policies of the Indian government, have not received a single naya paisa”.
