A day after Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani fainted during a public speech while campaigning for local body polls in Vadodara, he tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

He is admitted to the city's UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology where his condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, two more BJP leaders including Member of Parliament from Kutch Vinod Chavda tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

A health bulletin issued by the hospital stated that Rupani has mild Covid-19 symptoms and his oxygen saturation was also normal.

Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, who is also the health minister, said that Rupani's condition is stable and he has been isolated as per the Covid-19 protocol. He said that Rupani was brought to the hospital last night from Vadodara where he had fainted during a public event for a thorough check-up. "All reports have indicated that his condition is stable. We can say that he fainted due to fatigue."

On the question of tracing people who came in close contact with Rupani, he said they will be contacted.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Vinod Chavda and party's state general secretary Bhikhu Dalsaniya have also tested positive for the virus. Party officials said that both the leaders are stable.
