Woman gang-raped and hanged, survives

A woman in Haryana was hung to a pole in the fields by her neck and left to die after four men gang-raped her, police said on Monday.

Physically and mentally traumatized after the gang-rape, the woman kept struggling as the noose tightened with her body weight pulling her down.

Fortunately, the rope snapped and the victim fell on the ground injured.

She then called her husband who took her to a civil hospital in Haryana's Kaithal district where is she is being treated.

In the incident that took place in Kalayat area of the district, police said that the accused fled the scene after hanging her and added that the accused men panicked and wanted to kill her after raping the woman.

The victim’s house is in the fields in the area. Her desperate screams for help could not be heard as there is no house in the nearby area.

The woman in her twenties was alone in the house when the four men, who worked in a nearby eatery on the highway, forced their way inside her house at night.

The accused had sensed an opportunity after they learnt that the woman’s husband was away for some work.

Even as a case of rape and attempted murder has been registered against four persons, no arrests have been made by the police.

Representatives of the woman's commission have visited the victim to take stock of the situation.
