Protesters demand train stoppage

Members of various organisations staged a protest demanding stoppage at Birur for the newly started Janshatabdi train service between Shivamogga and Bengaluru, at Birur Railway Station on Friday.

Addressing the protesters, district Congress unit general secretary K M Vinayaka said, "Birur Junction provides connectivity to different parts of the country. Mysuru-Varanasi, Yashvanthpura-Pandarapura, Yashvanthpura-Bikaner, Yashvanthpura-Hazrath Nizamuddin Samparkakranthi Express, Yashvanthpura-Chandigarh Samparkakranthi Express are also not given stoppage at Birur. The officials should take measures to provide stoppage for trains at Birur."

Resident K G Manjunath said, "Birur Railway Station has no shortage of platforms. The railways have 63 acres of land which can be used for development works. The stoppage for super fast trains at Birur will benefit the residents. We had already submitted a memorandum to MP and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal."
