Last Updated 23 January 2018, 09:04 IST

The Shiv Sena will  go solo for the 2019 Lok Sabha and Maharahstra Legislative Assembly elections.

Besides, the party also decided to contest polls in other states sans BJP.

This was decided at the Shiv Sena national executive meeting coinciding with the 92nd birth anniversary of its founder Balasaheb Thackeray.

The meeting also re-elected Uddhav Thackeray as its President.

In a related development, Yuva Sena President Aditya Thackeray was elevated as 'party leader' at Shiv Sena national executive meet.

Speaking at the meeting, Thackeray lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

Speaking on the recently-concluded polls in Gujarat in which BJP won with difficulty, he said: "In Gujarat polls, Congress gained it's position, the BJP lost it's position....had there be a regional party...it would have won the election."

He also lashed out at Modi for taking foreign head of states and government to Ahmedabad and Gujarat. "(Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu came...he was taken to Gujarat....why not Mumbai or West Bengal...road shows can be done in other states....why fly kite, and not unfurl tricolour at Lal Chowk," he said.
