Twitter brings audio chat room 'Spaces' to Android ahead of Clubhouse

Last Updated 03 March 2021, 10:28 IST

Just when the drop-in audio-only app Clubhouse started to gain prominence on the iOS platform, Twitter quickly released its own feature on the proprietary social media platform Spaces in January. It allows users to join audio chat rooms, but the invitees can speak only after the host grants the permission, or else you just have to listen to the discussion.

Twitter Spaces was initially available to select users on iOS and now, the company has expanded the availability on Android.

"Android folks, our beta is growing! starting today you will be able to join and talk in any Space. SOON you’ll be able to create your own but we’re still working out some things. keep your 👀 out for live Spaces above your home tl," Twitter Spaces said on Twitter.

This gives a headstart to the Twitter Spaces over the Clubhouse. Though the latter has more than 10 million patrons on the Apple iOS platform, the Android version is still under work.

This has become a bad habit for top companies such as Twitter, Google, and Facebook to rip-off popular features of emerging applications and integrate them into their services.

For instance, Facebook introduced Stories, which was originally first seen in Snapchat to Instagram. Another is Google bringing Shorts, a TikTok lookalike feature to YouTube to create short videos.

How to find and join Spaces on Twitter
On iOS, users can view the Spaces on the top Fleets section with animated violet-hued circles.
On Android, It's the same and you can find it in your timeline on top, where Fleets are present. Since it is being rolled out in phases, Spaces will appear soon, probably by the end of this week.
