Xiaomi teases innovative concept phone with quad-curved waterfall display

Last Updated 05 February 2021, 10:22 IST

In late 2019, Xiaomi launched a Mi Mix Alpha concept phone. It had an innovative Surround Display design language. Barring the camera, the screen wraps around the phone with near-zero bezels at the base and the top.

Now, the Chinese consumer electronics major has come up with another concept mobile a with creative design language dubbed as a quad-curved waterfall display.

It sports a full view screen that cascades 88-degree all the way to the rear-side, on all sides, hence the quad-curved waterfall display name.

"The 88° ultra quad-curved glass has virtually broken through the technological limits of glass production. Compared with ordinary curved glass, the difficulty of hot bending increases exponentially. Polishing a piece of such hyper-curved glass with a deep 88° bend on four sides requires self-developed glass processing equipment, hot bending under 800°C high temperature and pressure, four different polishing tools, and up to more than ten complex polishing procedures. More importantly, behind such a piece of glass are thousands of attempts," the company said.

Another interesting thing about the Xiaomi phone is that it has no ports at all, not even a speaker grille. It can only be charged by a wireless charger. It has a true unibody design and looks spectacular to the eyes.

However, this precious thing has to be handled carefully. Simple drop on a hard surface, the new Mi concept phone can crack like a mirror.

Except for the exterior design, Xiaomi hasn't revealed any more details of the concept phone. More can be expected on February 8, as it plans to launch the global variant of the Mi 11 Pro.
