Cricketer S Sreesanth booked in cheating case

Thiruvananthapuram: A cheating case was registered against cricketer S Sreesanth and two others at Kannur in Kerala on Thursday.

A native of Kannur moved a local court alleging that he was cheated of Rs 18.5 lakh by the accused by offering partnership in a villa and sports academy project at Udupi in Karnataka. The court directed the Kannur town police to probe the allegation.

Sreesanth was arraigned as the third accused. The first and second accused were identified as Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini respectively.

The complainant alleged that Kumar and Kini took the money in installments from 2019 offering partnership in the project. Sreesanth also endorsed the offer. The case was registered under IPC 420 for cheating.

Police said that a detailed statement of the complainant would be taken for proceeding with the probe.

Sreesanth was not available to give his comments on the allegation.
