The franchise bought him at the age of 18 back in 2019 for Rs 4.8 crore and have backed him ever since. Backed him when he was a fringe player and backed him as a full-time one. From an explosive young opening talent to a matured one now, he has found a way to play to his potential.</p>.<p>The seasoned Punjab batter is in the middle of a productive IPL season, having scored 292 runs at a strike rate of 168.97 with two fifties and a highest score of 83 prior to the game against CSK on Wednesday.</p>.<p>“It has been seven years with the Punjab Kings and they have always trusted me. I was frustrated and would go to the gym and run 7–8 km. However, I spoke to Sachin sir. He told me, ‘If you’ve come this far, think of how much you can learn. Many players would want to be where you are.’ That changed my perspective. I started believing that if it doesn’t happen now, it will happen next time,” he said.</p>.<p>Prabhsimran has nailed his job at the opening slot with an ultra aggressive approach and when surfaces, situations have asked questions about caution and temperament, he has shown good technique to handle it as well. In the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders on a slow, two-paced Eden Gardens wicket, he started off on a vigilant note and then injected power and precision to score a 49-ball 83. He hit 34 runs in his first 23 balls and then smashed 49 in the next 17.</p>.<p>It’s not just this IPL where Prabhsimran has been in scorching form. He was brilliant in the two domestic white-ball tournaments last season, scoring 498 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and 207 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy at a blistering strike rate of 165 for Punjab.</p>.<p>“I want to capitalise on the powerplay. Even the conversations with Ricky Ponting have been about backing my game despite it being high-risk and high-reward,” he concluded.</p>
