Mysuru score thumping win

Calicut edge MG University to reach semis

 Hosts University of Mysuru registered a thumping 8-1 upset win over last year’s runner-up Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore, and stormed into the semifinal league on the third-day of the South Zone Inter-University women’s hockey tournament at the Chamundivihar astro-turf grounds on Wednesday.

 The Mysuru girls played a fast paced game and the Bharathiyar’s defence wilted under constant pressure from Mysuru’s forwards.

 H P Sandhya (6th & 9th), B M Komala (27th & 30th) scored two-goals each while P P Rashmi (10th), M M Likitha (21st), N Ramya (41st) and H P Sindhu (52nd) scored a goal each. S Gayathri scored the lone goal for Bharathiyar University in the 48th minute.

In the other quarterfinal, University of Calicut scored a 1-0 win over Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and entered the semifinal . Daly John netted the lone goal in the 40th minute.

Due to inclement weather the organisers have decided to conduct the semifinal league matches from Thursday afternoon and the valedictory function slated for Friday morning has been shifted to Friday evening at 4.30 pm at Chamundivihar stadium.
