25,000 vehicles ply on B’luru-Mys highway every day

A report submitted by a private organisation to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has stated that around 25,000 vehicles ply every day on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

Ifkon India Private Limited in Gurugram, Haryana, had conducted a two-way survey from August 28 to September 5. A five-member team which conducted the survey, measured the traffic flow using advanced technology. According to the report, on an average, 25,000 vehicles ply in 24 hours and it increases by plus 5,000 during weekends and holidays.

Speaking to DH, Suresh of Ifkon said, the survey was conducted as there are plans to convert the existing highway into 10-lane. The seven-day survey was conducted during different timings and the vehicle density is more from 7 am to 10 am and between 6 pm and 8 pm. The movement of goods vehicle is more after 9 pm.

The survey was conducted under four categories like, vehicles registered in state, inter-state vehicles, personal vehicles and commercial vehicles. The complete details and statistics of the vehicles in each category will be disclosed soon, Suresh said.

According to the Traffic police, more than 50,000 vehicles ply every day during Mysuru Dasara.

Many international tourists and visitors from across the country visit Mysuru to be a part of Dasara.

Special Dasara buses are also introduced during the festival season, he said.

With the land acquisition works in its final stages, the works pertaining to 10-lane will begin soon.

After this, the travel time between the two cities will come down.

PWD Minister H D Revanna has held discussions with NHAI authorities and has assured that the works will begin soon.
