A Border Security Force soldier from Navaga village in Khanapur was martyred in naxal attack in West Bengal on Sunday.

Rahul Vasant Shinde, attached to the 117th battalion, was returning to tents after night duty by a BSF vehicle along with other soldiers when the attack occurred around 6.40 am. The naxals fired at vehicle killing Shinde.

Shinde's mortal remains would be brought to his native for cremation on Monday.

A pal of gloom descended the village after the news broke out. Shinde, the last son of Sujata and Vasant, joined the Indian army in 2012. He was scheduled to enter wedlock in May.

Rahul's brother serves with Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force.
