PWD Minister C M Udasi told reporters in Bangalore that the damage assessment has been already sent to the Centre and the State government is waiting for an early response.

The damage to highways and roads maintained by the State government has been estimated at Rs 1,319 crore, while the damage to bridges at Rs 658 crore.

The damage to national highways is Rs 203 crore and the assessment has been sent to National Highways Authority of India. The State government had utilised its own funds to ensure that road connectivity to the affected areas.

Replying to queries, he said the State government had decided that purchase of furniture for ministerial bungalows should be done only after consulting the ministers concerned and routed through the DPAR. The amount should not exceed Rs 10 lakh, Udasi said.

The move comes in the wake of charges that public works officials had presented inflated bills for the purchase of furniture and repair of ministers’ houses last year.
