Demand for resumption of commercial flights from Mysuru

Industrialists, academicians and members of various organisations on Thursday, urged Mysore Airport Director M K Singh to take measures to resume commercial flight operations from Mysuru.

In a meeting convened at the director’s office at the airport in Mandakalli on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road, it was aired that the service was stopped because of lack of air passengers and others reasons.

The private carrier that was earlier providing the service was facing severe financial and staff crunch forcing it to abort the service, opined CBSE/ICSE State Committee Private Schools Federation vice-president Ravindraswamy.

Indian Company Secretary Chapter Mysuru Region president M C Bansali said that the authorities failed to cater to the convenience of the passengers and repeated changes in schedule also made the service inaccessible for prospective passengers.

The authorities should provide connectivity between Mysuru and Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Mumbai to gain popularity, said Granite Merchant Association Secretary Vinodkumar Jain.

Sriram of CREDAI, said that every day more than 300 passengers from Mysuru fly to different parts of the country. Unfortunately, neither the government nor private airlines had invited public for an interaction or sought suggestions, he added.

Sudhakar S Shetty, Chairman of Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, District Coordination Committee, suggested the government direct the officials, who travel by cabs to Bengaluru and other cities, to opt for flight service.

Arrangements should be made so that the flight leaves Mysuru to the capital city by 7 am and returns from Bengaluru Airport by 8 pm. Builders Association of India, Mysuru chapter president Ramaprasad, Hebbal Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association president Jayant and others were present in the meeting.
