He was speaking after inaugurating the party’s membership campaign by the party organised at Palace Grounds in Bangalore on Monday. “I have been in politics for the last 50 years. I wish to continue for next five years and I am hopeful that god will give me strength required to make the party stronger”, he said.

Turning towards the party’s state president and his son H D Kumaraswamy, he said that Kumaraswamy’s health condition was worse compared to his. However, he called upon his son to eat well and be cautious about his health. Further, he said he had the capacity to make the party stronger enough to win at least 125 seats in the state. The party should be strengthened from the booth level.

Deve Gowda said that the party would appoint those who make the highest number of memberships as presidents of party’s taluk units and they would have better chances to become candidates in the next elections. He said he would personally look after the membership campaign in North Karnataka.

The party has appointed MLC H C Neeravari party’s election officer and Prof K E Radhakrishna head of the party’s media cell.
