The entire north Karnataka and parts of coastal and Malnad regions are in the grip of one of the worst natural disasters the State has witnessed in a long time.

The floods that have followed the torrential rains have brought unprecedented misery to lakhs of people.

It has been in the form of death of many of their loved ones, destruction of houses, properties, crops and loss of most of their belongings.

The State has also suffered huge losses with the washing away of roads, bridges, railway tracks and other public properties. Rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations for the affected people are a gigantic task and it will take weeks, if not months.
In this hour of human tragedy, we can do our bit to support the hapless people as the government’s efforts alone are not adequate.

Deccan Herald has set up a relief fund for the disaster victims with an initial contribution of Rs 5 lakh. We appeal to our readers, schools, colleges, corporates, clubs and associations to contribute generously to this relief effort.

The names of those who contribute Rs 1,000 or more will be published in both Deccan Herald and Prajavani. The photographs of individuals who contribute Rs 25,000 or more will also be published.

Contributions can be made through cheques or bank drafts, drawn in favour of Deccan Herald-Prajavani Flood Relief Fund and sent to our office at 75, M G Road, Bangalore-560 001.

Cheques/DDs can also be sent to our regional offices in Gulbarga, Hubli, Davangere, Mysore and Mangalore.

Please superscribe the envelope with Deccan Herald Relief Fund.
Contributions can also be made directly to the SB A/C No 200385, Canara Bank, Cantonment Branch, Bangalore 560001.

The amount collected from this effort will be handed over to the Karnataka government's relief fund. The contributions are eligible for exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
