Acharya's image will help win Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll: CM

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda expressed confidence that the reminiscences of charismatic leadership of late leader Dr V S Acharya enrolled in his long extended non-envious political career with high esteemed political values will bring victory to the party in the forthcoming Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypoll.

Speaking to media persons here on his arrival to attend a ceremony held in memory of Dr V S Acharya, the CM said Acharya was not only his political guide, besides he also filled the space of his father.

He opined that leaders like Acharya with spotless political career are rarely seen. “He was strength behind most of my political decisions. The poll result might have been fairly different with Acharya leading the party in the fight, however, we are certain that the memories of non controversial leadership of Acharya is an advantage to the party to gain victory. I do agree that there is degrade in the values practiced by the politicians these days. However, Udupi is far from the dissolute political scenario as it was taken care under the leadership of Dr V S Acharya,” he added.

Later speaking at the party workers convention held in Kaup, Gowda alleged that the Congress in its rule of nearly 55 to 57 years has left the state bankrupt in terms of development and also resource mobilization.

He said the Congress has created Guinness book of records when it comes to the differences within the party. Almost all leaders are having their own self interest to safeguard.

“In this backdrop, the Congress deserves no moral stance to pinpoint the differences within the BJP.”

Briefing on the development of the State during the BJP rule, the CM said former CM Yeddyurappa was instrumental in bringing out accurate blue print of development designed to achieve success within a short period. He said in contrast to the budget worth Rs 25,500 crore presented by Siddharamaih, Yeddyurappa was able to announce the budget of Rs 33,500 crores in the first year.

He alleged that the Congress is an escapist. Congress leaders never turn out to have a healthy debate over the important issues concerning state during Assembly session. He said he worked for reducing the CRZ norms from 300 meters to 100 meters. Besides, he also tried and was successful in introducing Karwar-Bangalore train.

The four laning of the national highways will be completed in the next one and half years. Development work has been initiated to upgrade the harbours across the state without the financial assistance from the Centre, he informed.
