Heavy rain hits normal life in Kolar district

Heavy rain pounded Kolar district on Monday night, throwing normal life out of gear. A large number of houses have collapsed while rainwater gushed into more than 500 houses across the district.

Rainwater flowed onto roads from clogged drains leading to flooding. Water entered several houses washing away utensils and articles of daily use. Shops too have sustained heavy loss due to the downpour.

School buildings have collapsed due to the rain. Water has accumulated in front of several homes as a result of which the residents are finding it difficult to come out of the houses. The power supply has been affected in several areas as electricity poles and trees uprooted.

Rainwater gushed into many houses in Kuvempu Nagar, Rehmath Nagar, and Millat Nagar extension. Several bikes were washed away in the rainwater while an auto was under water accumulated in the railway underbridge in Khadripura.

Standing crops have also been affected as agricultural fields have been flooded. Farmers fear that crops may rot due to water accumulation.

Chitravathi reservoir in Bagepalli taluk of Chikkaballapur district has filled to the brim after a gap of six years.

Former legislator G V Srirama Reddy and others offered Bagina to the dam on Tuesday. The dam is a source of water for 120 villages of Bagepalli and Gudibande taluks.
