He spoke about the demolition of the Anjaneya Temple for the sake of road-widening at a public grievance meeting organised on Wednesday at the Seetharama Kalyana Mantapa.

Prior to the meeting, Prabhakar visited the Temple and took note of the area that was marked by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for widening. He also participated in the pooja ceremony in the Anjaneya Temple.

Standing firm

Since the four-lane road and the bridge are already constructed, they cannot be demolished. The NHAI has no desire to demolish a temple that was built in 1930.
However, a survey was conducted in 2005. The verdict of the Supreme Court, taking public convenience and provision of basic amenities into consideration, therefore, will stand.

But, efforts would be taken to avoid hurting the sentiments of the people. The Ashwatthakatte and the compound wall of the Temple come under the land marked for widening of road.

Therefore, land would be given to the Temple on the other side. The Ashwattha tree, which will be uprooted, will be replanted on the new area, Prabhakar promised.

He added that MP K H Muniyappa would attend the next meeting in relation to the matter. His suggestions and guidance would come handy in going about the work of road-widening peacefully.

The Deputy Commissioner called upon the public to give their suggestions too, as it would aid discussion for a better end.

People request

Several people who attended the meeting said the land belonging to the Anjaneya Temple is being used for construction of drainage for the newly widened road. They requested the DC to postpone the construction to a few years later.

The meeting ended with an agreement to take in the suggestions of Muniyappa in the next meeting.

Additional DC Babanna, H R Bhagavan Das, Divisional Commissioner Peddappaiah, tahsildar Mangala, Govindaraj, Panigrahi were present during the meeting.
