Make Mysore smoke-free city Ramdas

Minister for Medical Education and District In-charge S A Ramdas on Sunday urged the motor mechanics and technicians to help make the city free from the smoke emitted by vehicles.

Speaking after inaugurating the second annual conference of the Mysore Two-Wheeler Workshop Owners and Mechanics Association at the dasara exhibition grounds here, he said : the city of Mysore has always took pride in its heritage and the culture. The mechanics can help make the city smoke-free city by educating the masses on emission levels. The technicians can also contribute on their own making best use of their expertise to make the vehicles they adjust vehicles to emit low levels of carbon. The rising pollution lelvel will lead to a serious problem in future, he said.

Ramdas revealed that the government was also discussing with the different universities on exploring the possibility of starting courses on motor mechanics and technician.

“There are several educated people working as motor mechanics. There is lot of scope to develop the work of a motor technician as a professional course and impart advanced training. To help the illiterate technicians, the course can be designed on a flexible model, where the mechanics appear for oral examination through voice recording. We have asked few universities to come out with a framework and syllabus for the course.”

Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal also stressed on the need for the support of the motor mechanics and technicians to educate masses on dangers of riding a vehicle without helmet.

The public cooperation and support is important to maintain law and order and traffic discipline in city, he opined. ‘
