Mysore district slips to 14th slot in II PU results

As the pre-university exam results are out, the pass percentage has brought disappointment. The ranking of the district has slid from the previously held 12th position to the 14 th position this year with 58.07 per cent results. Last year, the district had registered 64.13 pass percentage.

Of the 23,906 students appeared for the examination in science, commerce and arts streams, 13,883 students cleared the exam. The girls have an upper hand over boys.

As many as 56.75 per cent girls cleared examination when compared 41.78 per cent boys. Out of 17,407 boys appeared, only 7,273 passed.

While, 8,244 girls passed out of the total 14,527 who appeared for the examination. In the other categories, only 21.21 per cent students who appeared privately have managed to clear the exams, even as 20.11 per cent repeaters passed.

Different streams

The commerce students fair better than their arts and science counterparts. Out of the 7,953 commerce students who wrote the exam, 4,586 passed registering 57.66 per cent.

Science students have secured 56.99 pass per centage as 4,894 students pass the examination out of 8,587 who appeared.

The arts students have put up a poor performance with only 39.22 per cent candidates clearing the exam. Out of 15,394 appeared, only 6037 students have passed the exam.

Urban-rural divide

The urban rural divide is also sharp. If 49.81 per cent of urban students passed the exams, about 42.43 rural students have passed.

A total of 26,648 students appeared in urban centres of which 13,274 students cleared the examination.

While, 1243 students passed out of the 5,286 candidates who appeared for the PU exams in rural areas. There are a total of 191 colleges in the district which include 68 government colleges, 28 aided and 95 unaided colleges, said In-charge Deputy Director of Pre-University Education Board V  said.
