'Parliament' discusses issues on saree, land scam

It also enabled the children to showcase their knowledge about Parliament and its functioning, and the whole activity surrounding the country’s politics.

The ‘young parliamentarians’ raised relevant questions of corruption in the purchase of saree under Bhagyalakshmi scheme.

The Parliament session was adorned by children donning the role of Chief Minister, Speaker, Ministers, and Opposition leaders.

To the allegations levelled by the Opposition members on corruption in purchase of sarees, Chief Minister said “If my involvement in corruption related to the distribution saree under Bhagyalakshmi scheme is proved with evidences, I will tender resignation and will accept political renunciation.”

The Opposition leader said that there was misappropriations in the distribution of saree in the Bhagyalakshmi scheme and the CM is involved in the same.

The students showed that Parliament session can be carried out smoothly without using vulgar languages, banging the chairs, and tearing the shirts. The event saw 52 students from 15 schools taking part.

During the question hour, Opposition members brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, various problems faced by various departments in a systematic and disciplined manner.

When opposition leaders raised the issue of giving power to Lokayukta, illegal mining, Naxal problems, power crisis, functioning of the exercise department, problems faced by the farmers, child labour system, Endosulfan, irregularity in education department, the ruling party ministers went on making a list of development works being carried out by the government. The Speaker was controlling the proceedings of the Session in an effective manner. Moreover, the presence of Marshals in the Parliament also added attraction to the Session.

Youth Parliament was inaugurated by State Parliamentary Affairs Joint Secretary Richard Lobo. Rosario Institutions Convener Rev Fr Stany Govias presided.

The winners

In the district-level Youth Parliament, five students were selected for the awards. Of which, first place winner Murshida from Government PU College in Uppinangady and second place winner Thushar from Vivekananda English Medium School in Puttur have been selected for the state-level contests. Meghshri from Indraprastha College in Uppinangady won the third place, while Savitha from St Theresa High School in Belthangady won fourth place. Pooja Shetty of Sudhana High School in Puttur won the fifth place.
