Garbage truckers strike work; demand 200 cr BBMP dues

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) garbage lorry contractors and owners have launched protests across Bengaluru from Monday morning.

The garbage lorry contractors are upset with the BBMP for not paying their contract fees of Rs 200 crore. This amount has been pending for the past five months they pointed out.

S N Balasubramaniam, general secretary, Bengaluru Mahanagara Swachate Lorry Malikara Mattu Guttigedarara Sangha, told DH: "We haven't been paid for the past five months; even after several requests. Hence, we have decided to begin our protest from (Monday) today, till our demands are met.”

As the contractors are protesting, garbage has not been cleared across the city. Door-to-door garbage collection is also affected.

Home Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister G Parameshwara along with City Mayor R Sampath Raj will hold a meeting soon with the garbage truck owners and contractors.
