Gauri Trust wants ban on Sanatan Sanstha

Last Updated 31 August 2018, 20:46 IST

The members of Gauri Lankesh Memorial Trust met Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Friday and sought that Hindu outfit Sanatan Sanstha be banned.

The trust members led by freedom fighter H S Doreswamy alleged that Sanatan Sanstha was involved in terror activities and it should be banned. They said that those arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh belonged to the outfit. Parameshwara said a probe had been ordered against the organisation and if the outfit was found to be indulging in anti-national activities, the government will consider banning it.

Doreswamy said the trust will be observing the first death anniversary of Gauri Lankesh on September 5 and sought protection during the event. The members sought Parameshwara, who holds the Home portfolio, that cases filed by state police against Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani and actor Prakash Raj be withdrawn.

They stated that the duo were only participating in a seminar entitled ‘Save Constitution’ in Chikkamagaluru in May this year, but FIRs had been filed against them stating that they had violated the model code of conduct then in place for the Assembly polls.
