Goa bans fish from other states

Last Updated 10 November 2018, 18:30 IST

The Goa government has issued an order banning the transport of fish from other states for six months, reports DHNS from Karwar.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajith Rane said that the order will come into effect from November 12.

Rane said the move has been taken as the government is establishing a laboratory to find out the traces of formalin, which is being sprayed to prevent rotting, in fish being transported from other states. "As part of this process, we are banning the fish of other states. If the establishment of the laboratory gets delayed, the ban may continue for another six months," he added.

He said the step is being taken in the interest of the state’s citizens. "I will hold a meeting with the DGP in this regard on Monday. I will instruct the police and food safety officers to register cases if the rules are violated," he said.
