Heavy showers pound Ballari, Bagalkot dists

Belagavi and Uttar Kannada districts also receive rains

 Heavy showers pounded parts of Ballari and Bagalkot districts while Uttara Kannada district, including Karwar, received moderate rain on Wednesday.

Tambralli and surrounding villages in Hagaribommanahalli taluk of Ballari district experienced heavy rain, accompanied by gusty winds, for over one-and-a-half hours on Wednesday afternoon. The showers left several farms on the outskirts of the village inundated with rain water.

The incessant rain has filled up lakes and farm ponds, bringing smiles on the faces of farmers, who are hoping to reap a rich harvest of maize, groundnut and millets.

The roof sheets of the house belonging to Moulasab have blown away in the wind. Sewage-mixed rainwater gushed into several houses in the village, causing grave hardships to the residents.

Ballari town too received incessant rain for over three hours in the evening.

Hagaribommanahalli town and several villages in the taluk including Kechchinabandi, Ballahunsi, B Mutkur and Bandihalli among others received light to moderate rain.

Bagalkot town, parts of Badami and Guledgud taluks witnessed heavy rain for about 45 minutes on Wednesday evening. The showers left the drains, roads inundated with rainwater at old Bagalkot, Navanagar and Vidyagiri areas. Rainwater mixed with sewage gushed into into a house at Vidyagiri 19th Cross, giving tough time for CMC workers.

Neeralakeri, Muchkandi, Gaddanakeri Cross, tanda, Muranal, Simikeri, Kelavadi, Teggi, Timmasagar also received incessant rain.

Karwar, Mundgod and Kumta in Uttara Kannada district experienced light showers on Wednesday. The district has received a total of 135 mm in the last 24 hours (ending at 8.30 am on Wednesday). Ankola taluk received a maximum of 27.6 mm followed by Kumta 25.7 mm.

Sudden downpour lashed Belagavi and surroundings areas for about 15 minutes on Wednesday. But for a brief spell of sunshine at afternoon, the city skies remained cloudy since morning. The skies opened up in the evening. The downpour lasted for about 15 minutes. Twin cities Hubballi and Dharwad experienced light rain on Wednesday.
