Alva's students to represent India at Asian sports meet

Fourteen students of Alva’s Educational Institutions, including alumnus Olympian M R Poovamma, will represent India at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship to be held at Kalinga Stadium, Odisha, from July 6 to 9.

Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said Athletics Federation of India has selected 13 students of the institution for the Asian meet and one for International School Games meet based on their performance in the Federation Cup held at Patiala.

The athletes had bagged four gold, five silver and two bronze  medals in the Federation Cup.
M R Poovamma, Abhishek Shetty,  Joyline Lobo, Siddharth Nayak, Chethan, Nayan James, Samsheer, Sheena, Anu Raghavan, Anamika, Santhosh, Jakthar Singh Praveen and Kumar will take part in the championship.

Jyothsna has been selected for Athletics World School Championship. She had bagged gold in the 100 and 200-metres sprint in the National School Games.

Poovamma, Sheena and Anamika will also represent India in the international athletics meet to be held at Kazakhstan in July, Dr Alva said.
