Apathy mars govt schools in Kodagu

Leaking classrooms, cracked walls and broken windows welcome students here

The Government has been spending crores of rupees for improving the quality of government schools, the situation has not improved.

One such example is high school classrooms in Madikeri Government Junior College campus. One can count the number of classrooms which are in good condition in this school. Instead of counting the number of good classrooms, one will get more number of leaking classrooms, cracked walls, broken windows and doors. The students are forced to sit in leaking classrooms and listen to the lectures of the teachers.

A case in point is the Government Junior College situated in the heart of the City. It has been neglected by all. When the monsoon approaches, authorities repair the tiles temporarily in four to five classrooms. However, there are many classrooms which are not repaired. Though elected representatives pass through this college everyday, they have turned blind towards the pathetic condition of the school.

The Government every year spends crores for the repair of classrooms under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana. However, the building of the Madikeri government high schools remains the same. Though rains have receded in Kodagu, some of the classrooms are still leaking. If the authorities continue to neglect this school, there is no doubt that the building will collapse one day.

Along with primary school, high school, junior college, degree college, the campus will accommodate Kendriya Vidyala this year. Hundreds of students come to this campus. Will the education department, district administration and elected representatives turn their eye towards this school and repair the classrooms at the earliest?
